Used Ram 1500 alternators, starters & control modules
We sell used Ram 1500 alternators, starters, ignition coils, engine bay and interior fuse boxes, engine wiring harnesses and control modules from 2009 to 2026 trucks. Everything here is checked working on the donor before it is tagged. The important split on this page is between the parts that simply bolt on, like an alternator or a starter, and the modules that are tied to the truck they came out of and need a shop to program them. We tell you which one you are buying before you pay, not after.
Which of these just bolt on, and which need programming?
| Part | Bolt on? | What has to match | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alternator | Yes | Engine, and the output rating your truck was built with | A higher-output unit from a tow-package truck is a common and sensible upgrade |
| Starter | Yes | Engine. HEMI and Pentastar starters are different parts | Bench tested before tagging |
| Ignition coil | Yes | Engine | Sold singly or as a set of eight for a HEMI |
| Fuse box, engine bay or interior | Usually | Year, body and the truck's option content | A fuse box from a differently optioned truck can be missing circuits yours uses |
| Engine wiring harness | Yes, with care | Engine, year, body and options | Sold with connectors photographed; we do not cut harnesses |
| Engine controller (PCM) | No | Engine, transmission, year | Tied to the truck it came from. Needs a dealer or a shop with the software |
| Body control module | No | Year, body, option content | Same: it has to be told which truck it is in now |
| Airbag control module | No | Year, body, restraint options | Safety system. Dealer or qualified shop only, and never one from a deployed truck |
Why can I not just swap in a used PCM?
Because on these trucks the engine controller is married to the vehicle. It carries the truck's identity and talks to the immobiliser in the ignition system, so a controller from another truck will not simply start yours: the anti-theft system sees a module that does not belong and refuses. A dealer or an independent shop with the manufacturer software can write your truck's information into a used module, and that step is a real cost you should price before you buy the part. We would rather lose the sale than sell you a module you cannot use, so we say this on every module inquiry.
Is a used alternator a good buy?
Usually yes, and it is one of the better value parts in the yard. An alternator is a simple machine that is normally replaced because a bearing got noisy or the internal regulator failed, and a good used unit from a lower-mileage donor costs a fraction of a new one. We spin every alternator and check output on the donor before removal. The thing to match is the output rating: a truck built with a tow package or a heavy electrical load often carries a higher-amp alternator, and stepping up to one is fine while stepping down is not.
What is checked before an electrical part is tagged?
- Alternators for charging output and bearing noise, on the running donor.
- Starters for engagement and draw, cranking the donor.
- Modules for physical condition, no corrosion or water ingress, pins straight, and the donor's year and options recorded.
- Harnesses and fuse boxes for cut, melted or repaired sections, with connector photos.
Shipping electrical parts across Ontario
These are the easiest parts on the site to send. An alternator, a starter, a coil or a module is small, dense and takes a padded box without fuss, so it reaches anywhere in Ontario by courier at the buyer's expense. A full engine wiring harness is bulky rather than heavy and goes in a larger box, coiled rather than folded so no connector takes the weight. The Ontario buying guide covers HST, cores and what to ask any yard before you pay.
