The 2019 and later DT version adds eTorque, a 48-volt motor generator, so Dodge Daddy, in Ontario's Hamilton Region, does not sell a DT Pentastar as a drop-in for a 2013 to 2018 truck. Checked 28 October 2026. ## What did the Pentastar replace in 2013? The 3.7-litre V6 and its four-speed automatic. Stellantis said the 2013 Pentastar made "42 percent more horsepower" and 13 percent more torque than the 3.7, with at least 20 percent better fuel economy, and that it came standard with the eight-speed TorqueFlite 8 automatic, "doubling the number of gears". It also rated the V6 truck to tow 6,500 pounds. For a parts buyer, 2013 is the line: a 2009 to 2012 V6 truck has a different engine and transmission from a 2013 to 2018 one. Checked 28 October 2026. ## What is eTorque on the Pentastar? A mild-hybrid system that arrived with the 2019 DT. A belt-driven motor generator replaces the alternator and works with a 48-volt, 430 watt-hour lithium-ion battery pack mounted inside the cab. It runs the stop-start, recovers energy when braking and, in Stellantis's words, "adds up to 90 lb.-ft. of torque to the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6" for short bursts. Stellantis lists the eTorque V6 as the standard engine in most 2019 DT trims. Checked 28 October 2026. ## Will a DT Pentastar fit my 2016 Ram 1500? Not as a running engine. The DT's eTorque Pentastar has the motor generator where a DS has its alternator, cables to a 48-volt pack a DS has no place for, and the DT's own controller and harness. The long block is the same engine family and a rebuilder can use it, but the engine as pulled from a DT does not bolt into a DS and run. That is our reading of the two trucks, the same one that applies to the [HEMI](https://dodgedaddy.ca/guides/5-7-hemi-years-etorque-mds/). A 2013 to 2018 DS engine and a 2019 to 2024 Classic engine are the closer match to each other, because the Classic is the DS body. ## Which transmission goes with which Pentastar? On the DT, Stellantis pairs the Pentastar with the TorqueFlite 850RE eight-speed and the HEMI with the 8HP75; its 2025 specification sheet lists the 850RE as "standard with 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6" and its axle ratios as 3.21 and 3.55. On the 2013 to 2018 DS and the Classic, the Pentastar sits in front of the smaller TorqueFlite eight-speed. A transmission from a HEMI truck is a different unit even within the same year. Every engine is inspected before it comes out of the truck and compression tested, and it is sold with the donor truck's year, body and mileage written down. On an eTorque engine we also say whether the motor generator comes with it.
